The perks of a Personal Limited Company? You keep more of what you earn, set your own salary, and take control of your finances.
It’s a smart way to save for quiet periods, invest in assets, and take advantage of extra tax planning and wealth management opportunities, all while claiming more expenses.

A Personal Limited Company may not be ideal if you’re earning less than €400 a day, on a short contract, or need something set up quickly.
It also involves higher fees and a bit more admin, so if you’d rather keep things simple and let us guide you, an Umbrella Company may be a better fit.

A €500 day rate sounds straightforward until you ask what actually reaches your bank account. If you work 20 billable days at €500 per day, you'll invoice €10,000 for the month. But €10,000 isn't your salary, and it isn't your final take-home pay. Your actual income depends on your umbrella structure, tax credits, PRSI treatment, pension contributions, allowable expenses, and personal circumstances. There isn't one universal take-home percentage that applies to every contractor—but worked illustrations offer a great starting point.

Working for yourself comes with a different set of financial responsibilities. Your income may vary. Your contracts or clients can change. You might start out as a sole trader or through an Umbrella Company before deciding that a Personal Limited Company makes more sense. As your income grows, your tax position and responsibilities can change too.
